About Jeff Butler
Hello, and thank you for visiting my website. I would first like to say that I am very excited to be teaching your students this school year! This is my second year teaching at Dixon Montessori Charter School, and I feel so grateful to be a part of such an excellent team!
As for my background, I’m a California native, growing up in Davis and Truckee for the most part. After high school I worked at Sutter Davis Hospital, while pursuing a degree in Biology at Sacramento State University. After graduating from CSUS in 1999, I took a four month surf trip to Costa Rica before beginning my first experience teaching as a substitute teacher for the Sacramento City Unified School District.
On my trip to Costa Rica I met my beautiful wife for the first time. We were married a year and a half later and moved back to Costa Rica after the school year at Sac City Unified was over. We moved to Playa Santa Teresa, Costa Rica where we built and sold beach houses in addition to surfing some of the nicest waves, on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world!
While in Costa Rica, in addition to construction and real estate, I took several online computer science and graphic design classes at Regis University, which helped create the technological foundation that I use today in my daily life and the classroom. Since then I have steered away from programming and focused more on graphic design and motion graphics. Currently, I enjoy working with creative programs such as Photoshop, After Effects, Premier and Illustrator, in addition to designing a 2D video game using Game Maker Studio 2.
After ten years in Costa Rica we finally moved back to Davis, CA once our son was ready to begin Kindergarten. My wife and I volunteered regularly in our kids' classes and drove on every field trip. These experiences renewed my interest in teaching which prompted me to begin substitute teaching in Davis and pursue my Masters in Education and teaching credential.
I’m very excited to have the opportunity to teach your students the skills I have learned over the years, in addition to the excellent keyboarding curriculum provided by DMCS. It's going to be a great year!
